i have friends that have come a long way with me in my life, so they will probably feature in my blogs.

To plan, or not to plan…

Posted on

Somehow, very little in my life goes according to plan.

Being religious, I do believe things happen or don’t happen for a reason. And that, however much you plan, things might not go your way if your plans don’t fit in with the ‘Big Plan.’ So basically, planning doesn’t help much, except you cannot go through life without some plans – how to make a living, where to live, who to spend your life with, etc.

At the moment, I am home alone. I LOVE time alone, like most of you probably do, but sometimes the opportunity to do my own thing and be on my own, fills me with less excitement than at other times. I THINK it has to do with choice.

I love being alone when I need time to recharge, rethink, and revamp, but then I want to be able to choose that time. I am alone at the moment through absolutely no choice of my own.I HATE THAT. And when I feel like this, I find it very hard to make the most of my time alone. I feel sorry for myself instead… How pathetic is that.

Tonight is the finals of the 2014 World Cup Soccer, as you well know, and I have to watch it alone. Fun!!! 😦 Not only am I alone, but my SO is in Cape Town, and although he actually hates soccer, and has only followed the soccer through me, he is watching tonight with a house full of family and friends.

And the last bit that makes it worse tonight than it normally is – my youngest son was with me for 3 days, and I loved every single moment of it, but he had to leave today. I’m feeling so sorry for myself, you will not believe it!

If I could PLAN tonight, it would have been very different, believe me! And even then it probably would have a few twists and turns… πŸ™‚

But hey, maybe a few glasses of wine, and I’ll feel a whole lot better! And I promise I won’t write a thing again until it’s something positive and upbeat!

Human beings need pleasure, the way they need vitamins.Β  ~Lionel Tiger

PS. This post was supposed to happen last night, but somehow the internet  just would not co-operate. 😦 So, a bit late, but I am still hoping that all of you have a great weekend!)

Road to everywhere

It’s weekend folks!!!!

Some of you might have plans (exploring, meeting friends, chilling), others might just take things as they come, but either way, I hope you road leads you to interesting places!!!

The road to where ever you want to go… πŸ™‚

Today is a holiday in South Africa – Heritage Day, so we are all taking it easy and relaxing, or having a ‘braai’ -( barbecue).

So, without saying a lot more, I’m off to do some more ‘chilling’ for the day!

I went off the day before yesterday to take some pictures. I found a delightful old ruin, and took quite a few pictures of it. More of those later, for today this one will have to do.

Happy Monday to all!!!! πŸ™‚

Chain saw massacre.

I spent two days in my ‘home town’ last week, partly to sort out some stuff with my house (always ‘stuff’ when you live far away from your property), and partly to spend some time with my friends as I miss them terribly. I don’t see them very often anymore since it’s a two hour drive to get there, and we don’t even talk on the phone that often anymore, as everybody has very busy lives.

On my way, on one of the roads close to Hartbeespoort, I had a huge shock. At first, my mind couldn’t take in what my eyes were seeing, but I stopped, turned around and took some photos, so I could share them with you.

At a bend in the road, there used to be a whole forest of blue gum trees – huge, old trees. And now, there are none. No trees. No wait, there are a few left, but looking at the carnage, the few standing will soon also fall victim to some chain saw swinging crazy person.

I know that they are not indigenous to South Africa. I know that they are being rooted out because they suck up a huge amount of water, water that other, local plants could rather use. But they’ve been there for ages. Long before all of us. So I’m upset that someone could make the decision to chop them off. Cut them down.Destroy the forest.

Slain trees.

Huge tree trunks

The radius of this next tree stump is at least 2m!!! 😦

A fallen giant.

Still standing…for now.

Am I stupid to be upset? They are seen as ‘unwanted aliens’, after all! πŸ™‚

On a more positive note. I came back home on Saturday afternoon, and on Sunday morning my SO and myself went to the farm to see that the cattle has water. This is what we found:

YES, another brand new baby girl!!!!!!

Sweetie pie having a drink!!!! πŸ™‚

On that positive, happy note, until we chat again, be blessed!!! πŸ™‚

A Double Thanks

Thank you to Bird,, for nominating me for the Inspiring Blogger Award. I really appreciate this, especially coming from someone who is the essence of inspiration – going through very tough times, you still manage to joke and you tell it like it is, not hiding anything. Stay strong, Bird!

Thank you to my dear friend, Mr Bunny Chow, for my very special and very gorgeous sketch of a little Brahman calf – I love it! πŸ™‚

There are still flowers left from the past weekend when we had the big 50th on the farm, and I thought that since they are bright and beautiful (well, they were, but they’re still fine…), I’ll share them with you. The first pic is a very amateur effort of a still life, but aside from the fact that I am an amateur (;) ) let’s blame it on the time constraint – I have to get back to the farm to see what is going on there! And the second is a close-up of the heart of the Gerbera you can see in the first picture. (Yes, you’ve guessed it, yellow is my SO’s favourite colour!!!!) πŸ™‚

Still life

Although it is Friday, over here it feels a lot like Monday since we had a holiday yesterday, and I wish you all a wonderful weekend!!! Enjoy whatever comes your way!!! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Sticks and stones.

Some of you know that I’m not a huge fan of black & white photographs.

However… I’ve been inspired by some of my friends here in blogland (like Leanne and Mr Bunnychow), to try something different. I’ve been waiting for a photograph that is stunning, different and that has the ‘wow’ factor, but for that I might wait for a very long time! πŸ™‚

So, I decided to use two of the more abstract B & W’s that I’ve taken over the last two weeks, and get an idea of what you guys think of it. I still have to get a feeling for it, so if you don’t, that’s fine with me! πŸ™‚

I was closing a gate on the farm last week, when I noticed some gravel lying there. It was left over after they put in new fence posts, and I thought – why not give this a try…

This next one was just a random idea that I tried, since I always felt that B&W works better with abstract pictures.

I’ve taken a lot of other , more ‘normal’ pictures as well, but to me they look extremely ordinary and boring, so I’ll have to decide if I’m going to share them with you.

But in the meantime, it’s weekend, so here’s wishing you all a wonderful weekend!!! πŸ™‚
