The Cow post

Cattle. Cows. Calves.

Oh, and creche!

I love the alliteration there! πŸ™‚ Bulls have no place in this specific post – Adam will have a chance next time.

I’m tempted to say: ‘Halleluya!’, because another beautiful calf was born yesterday morning, which brings the current total to eleven!!! Five heifers, and six bull babies. And a few more to come. I am smiling broadly at the moment. I do realize that something will go wrong again somewhere down the line, but I’m thoroughly enjoying our blessings and good fortune for now.

(I’m disappointed – I was going to post just a short video of the babies, but I can’t unless I buy space?!!!! ) So, not as cute but some pictures of the babes…

The Creche – Six of the babies relaxing with moms.

Babies a couple of weeks ago.

Yesterday we had to move our cattle to another camp, as they’ve munched off all the grass in the old camp. It was so funny to watch! They jogged through the gate, saw the green, green grass on the other side and dived in! Then after a few minutes, they realized it’s a whole camp of Β new, green grass and they started skipping and jumping and chasing each other around. It was so cool to watch! πŸ™‚

This cow was sick a short while ago, and when she saw the juicy grass, she stuck her head in it, and hardly came up for air! I had to laugh at the way she was just about ‘mowing’ the grass!!! I managed to draw her attention enough for her to lift her head so I could take a picture.

Ooooooh YUM!!!! πŸ™‚

πŸ™‚ Β Nearly weekend, friends, hope you’ve got wonderful plans for it!!!! Β πŸ™‚

Thanksgiving – My Way

Posted on

We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in South Africa. We do have a lot of ridiculous holidays (just my opinion), but if I could choose holidays and days of celebration, Thanksgiving would certainly be one of them.

In everyday life, we often get so stuck with the things that are wrong in our lives, we forget to be thankful for all our blessings. So I thought that tonight, I’ll give thanks to a few things.

It was my moms birthday today. I’m thankful that my SO* and I could go and spend some time with her, and that my daughter and my youngest son also took some time out to come and be with her. It wasn’t a huge celebration, and we didn’t eat lavishly, but we had lunch together and shared a lot of jokes and laughter.

I’m extremely grateful that we were blessed last week with 3 new calves in 4 days!!! Two heifers and one bull baby. The one little heifer has not been too well for the last three days, but we got some shots from the vet, which seem to have helped a lot. She’s not a hundred percent well yet, but much better than two days ago. And they are all so gorgeous, I don’t know how I’m ever going to be able to let them go when the time comes…

I’m grateful for the fact that we are planning this wonderful holiday in December, and that I’ll get a chance to experience the wonderful continent of Europe again after eight years of waiting and dreaming… It is beyond exciting to me!!!! πŸ™‚

I’m so extremely grateful to have three absolutely wonderful children, who grew up to be amazing young adults. I love spending time with them, not just because I can then touch and hug them, but because they always make me laugh – without fail. πŸ™‚

My three rays of sunshine!!!! πŸ˜‰

I have a looooooong list of things to be grateful for. The usual stuff like my health, a roof over my head, more than enough food to eat, etc., etc. And believe me, I really am grateful for all of that. But, even if this is corny and schmaltzy and a clichΓ©, I can’t not mention how very grateful I am for having a wonderful, generous, loving man in my life. I’m thankful that I’ve got someone to share my thoughts with, even if we don’t always agree on everything. I love spending a quiet lazy Sunday at home with him, doing nothing. I love Β  exploring new places with him, so you can imagine how much I’m looking forward to Christmas in Europe with him!!! πŸ™‚

Once one starts making a list of positives, you realize that you can go on and on and on, because most of us are blessed beyond belief. So, I’m going to end this post with this note to myself: stop dwelling on the negatives, and enjoy all the positives in your life, ZelmarΓ©!!!! πŸ™‚

Our beautiful new little Brahman heifer.

The sick little girl, on the day she was born (last week Sunday)

Our huge bull baby – a lot bigger than any of the other calves!! πŸ™‚

I hope you all have a very wonderful week!!!! πŸ™‚
