Conquer, or divide?

Posted on

This has become more and more of an issue.

While I still have this platform to write and voice my humble opinions on things (I don’t know what happens at the end of this month if I don’t renew my subscription), here goes!

We, and by this I mean the WHOLE world, have been living with this little pest, also known as Covid 19, for nearly two years now. We have gone through lockdown after lockdown, we have gone through a myriad of emotions on a daily basis, we haven’t seen our families for weeks, months or in my case, years, and still the end is not in sight. I is a tough, tough situation. Hopefully nobody alive on this earth will have to ever go through something like this again – if we can ever manage to get past this global hiccup, that is. I probably won’t see anything like this again in my lifetime.

We, as the human species, were divided on – where it came from, is it real, is it really as dangerous as they say, will you or won’t you wear your face mask, sanitize your hands, your house, your life, obey lockdown rules, etc.

Then, as if that was not enough, along comes the vaccine. Yay!!! Now we can all get vaccinated and life can continue as normal! Or not…

Nope. That was not to be, because the very existence of the vaccine, managed to divide people even more! Now friends and family argue and fight and threaten each other. They stop seeing each other because some are vaccinated, some are not. The most ridiculous thing I’ve heard up to now, was that someone (opposed to the vaccine) told vaccinated family that they should not come near her, because they (the vaccinated ones!) are a danger to her! I kid you not.

This is taking on bizarre and ridiculous measures, don’t you think? If ever I was to consider the fact that there is some sinister force at work, this might be the reason – that they meant to divide and then conquer the world, when it is at its most vulnerable.

I TOTALLY blame social media for all of this.

Yip, you heard me. Social media is to blame. It has become too easy to put disinformation out there for the whole world to see. The amount of crap, combined with the efforts from real science and scientists, is enough to make anybody and everybody’s head spin. Nobody has a clue anymore as to who or what to believe. You try and sieve out the truth from the nonsense, but how? There is just too much going on. And then you get those bloody idiots who find it amusing to deliberately post stupid pieces of nonsensical gibberish, and you will always find people that latch onto that and go – you see?

I do not see a solution to this problem, and I foresee even darker times ahead – call me a doomsday prophet if you want to. But this is a huge problem, families should stick together. Friends should support each other. If you do not have those structures anymore, what is left? Chaos.

It would be interesting to hear what you think about this, how you feel, but I’m not holding my breath for a response…

PS. This is of course my opinion, and mine alone, and I reserve the right to voice my opinion (which is something of a luxury these days) – and I stand by it.

Haz and Megz.

Or the Ginge and the Whinge, as I call them (and quite a lot of other people do too).

They are actually the Whinge and the Whinge! But to make things simple, let’s keep to the above.

I find it amazing how these two managed to create a following for themselves (albeit a relatively small following, thank goodness), mainly for dissing Harry’s family for no reason. And the fact that most of what they’ve been saying has been proven to have been lies, makes it even more incomprehensible.

What it probably does, is to show us the scary power of social media. People stir each other into a frenzy over inconsequential stuff. Because that’s what they are now – inconsequential. Neither of them have any standing in the world at the moment, and they probably never will, in the big scheme of things. And yet, you find those who will scream and swear if somebody dare say anything against them. Why?

Yes, she’s got a pretty face. But a bad actress – everybody could see right through her act from the start. Yes, he used to be a funny and charming member of the royal family. Now he is dour and disrespectful. But other than that, what and who are they now?

Are they trying their best to be the next ‘Kardashian family’? – who popped out of nowhere to become social media icons because of good (?) PR and shoving their faces into everybody else’s constantly. Except for promoting a hedonistic lifestyle, and making a few plastic surgeons very rich – who are they? What do they do that means anything? Which brings me back to the Haz-beens.

When they left the UK, most people wished them well in their new lives, after the shock of how they did it, wore off. But then they started with their nonsense, aided and abetted by Ms. Oprah, an even worse actress than Megz. (What? Whaaaaaat?) I wonder how long they think putting your own family down is going to make them money… Haz sure gets good lessons from the wifey, she has been treating her family like dirt for years! But it is not sustainable!!!!

Whether you are a fan of the royal family or not, and I really don’t care either way, surely there are better and more substantial people in the world that you can follow and go gaga over? Even if you don’t like ‘serious’ stuff, there are actors and actresses out there who can actually really act – follow them. Some of them even do some real charitable stuff! They are the ones you want to follow. Not the hollow tin cans.

Midweek thoughts.

A few random thoughts, which you may or may not agree with…

With all the information available on the internet these days, don’t you think things have actually become more complicated, instead of simpler? For instance – how do you choose what to eat, and what not to eat? That is, if you are interested in living a healthy life. Because the one article/post will tell you to stay away from any dairy products, the other will say you have to include it in your diet. One blog will say follow a keto diet, the other will say do that only if you want to die young. Stay away from charred meat or toast, it causes cancer. Eat lots of eggs if you want to die of a heart attack, avoid eggs if you want to live a long life. Drink coffee, don’t drink coffee. Eat bread, don’t touch bread. So, okay, what do I eat?

The same with child rearing. We, and our mothers and grandmothers (and all previous generations!), raised our children with lots of love, common sense, intuition, advice from our elders, and trial and error. I think we turned out just fine, as did our children. I mean, our generation are the Bill Gates, the Meryl Streeps, the Angela Merkels, the Freddy Mercury’s, the Richard Bransons of the world. Our children are well on their way to make names for themselves, and a lot have already done so, so I think our generation did more than okay in the child rearing stakes. Nowadays, babies are raised strictly according to Instagram and blog posts written by so called experts (mostly other moms), and what do we (the previous generation) know about raising babies. We are listened to with half an ear and quickly told what the ‘right’ thing is to do and how. Even if every single post have different ideas and advice, sometimes contradictory – Sleep train your baby! Never sleep train your baby! Let your baby sleep in your bed, don’t fall into the pit of co-sleeping! No trace anymore of following your gut, your intuition or your own mind – it is not to be trusted.

It is the same with just about everything else. Do this, don’t do it. Don’t do it like that, do it like this.

Is there anybody out there who still decide for themselves what and how they are going to do something? And think about things – social media even wants to force everybody to think the same! Why have we got minds of our own if we are not allowed to use it?

So here’s how I’m doing things. I eat what I like, when I like it, but always in moderation. I love bread and real butter, I will not stop eating it. I love cheese – plain, full fat cheddar or gouda, camembert and brie, and I always have some in my fridge. I’m not a vegetarian, and I’ll never be one, but I do like to do meatless meals often. I like having a glass of wine or two, sometimes a G & T, even an ice cold beer on a very hot day. I do not like Mexican food, and I refuse to eat worms, snakes, scorpions, horse, cat and dog meat.

I’ve cut down on social media and especially the news, drastically, because I won’t be brainwashed or forced into what I should think about things happening in the world, I’ll make up my own mind about it. (I do enjoy needling people on FB sometimes, but I refrain from doing that now, since I only glance through my feed these day.) I will not let others prescribe to me how I should feel about the overpopulation of the world, raising cattle or sheep, Trump/Biden, raising ‘genderless’ children, abortion, the Kardashians or the Cambridges/Sussexes.

I will not force my opinions on other people, and I expect the same respect from them.

Does that sound fair? I think so.

Have a wonderful Wednesday people!!! 🙂

Peace of mind vs Social media…

Mountains in the mist.

Peace of mind is a mental state of calmness or tranquility, a freedom from worry and anxiety.” –

I have increasingly felt that peace of mind is a priority in my life. I have actually craved it for many years now. At this point in my life, I feel I’ve earned it – life owes me! 😀

But, with the state of the world at the moment – chaos, pandemic, anarchy, hate, a precarious economy – I also find it increasingly difficult to reach that state.

Probably for that very reason, I do realize that I have become a bit of a recluse, and the lockdown definitely assisted me in shutting myself away from the outside world more and more. I have been asking myself what I can do to not make me feel so anxious and stressed, besides locking myself away, and I’ve come up with a few options. Whether that will help me face the world full-on again, remains to be seen.

Less social media. I have removed Facebook from my phone, so now I can only access it when I am on my laptop. I noticed that I get angry and upset every single time I scroll through the posts, and I started writing angry replies to many of them. And I was on every few minutes!!!! So, no more on-hand Facebook for me, and it is already a huge relief. Instagram does not make me upset, so for now, I’ve decided not to remove that.

I stopped watching the news on telly about a month ago. I find the fact that ‘you have to know what’s going on in the world’ is overrated! I get the gist of it the one time I’m on FB for a few minutes every day and that is more than enough for me!

I think the amount of constant stimulation we get from social media in general, is bad for peace of mind. It is a total overload to the senses, which we are really not built to cope with.

Meditation. I’ve wanted to do that for a long time as well, and decided that now is as good a time as any to start. I’ll see where that takes me, but I thought it was worth a try. I’ll let you know how that goes! 🙂

Cutting people from my life that cause me stress. Not always easy to do, but necessary. I don’t need negative influences in my life anymore.

Eating well. Also not always easy to do. I do love cooking, but it is sometimes not worth the effort when my SO* is away. But I do try and make the effort more often than not. I’m trying out different foods, like relatively new additions to my kitchen are chickpeas (not a huge fan, but it goes well with Indian style foods) and beans, which I’ve previously only used in bean soup! I still need to up my fruit intake, and the amount of water I drink per day.

I mostly do things I enjoy. Like knitting, crocheting, blogging, walking and doing something in the kitchen. I think today I’ll bake some cookies!

So, if you are feeling stressed and out of your depth, identify the source of your discomfort, and research ways to make things easier for yourself. Only you can know what will work for you.

Until next time, stay safe and sane! 😀
