Mulling it over.

Sunrise on the open road…

I went to bed last night, knowing exactly what I was going to write today.

I was busily composing my post in my head as I lay in bed, upset about a couple of things that happened during the day.

Of course, when morning came, I thought the better of it, and decided to tackle things a bit differently. I wonder sometimes if it is a good thing to think about things that you feel you need to get out there, instead of just saying it. I suppose the difference is that if you thought about it, you approach it in a different way, maybe a bit more tactful and thoughtful, whereas if you just let rip immediately, you might say things you regret later. So I have probably answered my own question…

My problem is, I often let things go if I don’t address it immediately. But I don’t LET GO let go, so it is scratching away on the inside, until it surfaces again. Oi…

Today I decided to tackle a little project that has been brewing at the back of my mind for a while now. I’ve got a little round pine table that is being used on the guesthouse patio. It has been looking sadder and sadder by the week, so this morning I grabbed the sander and started sanding it down, so I can paint it to fit in with my guesthouse theme. What is my theme? Well, if I tell you that I’m thinking of changing the name to “Cow Cottage”, I think it will give you a hint… 😉

But now I have to decide whether I want to go all colourful and cute, or more fancy and monochrome. Decisions, decisions…

I will do one whole post on the table, as soon as it is finished. And this can’t take months to do, as I do have guests coming in this weekend, so it has to happen chop-chop (that is soon, or quickly, or right away in South African!) 😀

A picture I painted a few years ago for the kitchen of the guesthouse.

Timing is everything.

Don’t you think?

In so many, many ways…

Think back to some of the major things that had happened in your life. For instance, imagine if you didn’t go to that coffee shop at that specific time so many years ago, you might never have met the love of your life. Or you wouldn’t have landed the job you’ve got now.

If I didn’t go to the shops at the time I did on the 30th May 2020, and if I crossed the road five seconds earlier or later, I would never have been hit by a truck, and landed up in hospital. (True story…)

When you cook and bake, timing is ever so important. If you leave the fish in the pan for 2 minutes too long, it is dry and horrible. If you forget to set the timer and you don’t take the cake out of the oven in time, it is ruined.

Accidents could have been avoided, lives would have been different, if the timing was different.

If you start the game of ‘IF’, it is amazing, mind boggling, scary. I don’t often think about things that way, but once I start, I keep going. I then realize how much of my life could’ve been different give or take a few minutes or hours here or there. It can also be a few years. I’ve heard people say that they’ve met the love of their life, but the timing wasn’t right.

I do, however, strongly believe in the fact that one’s life is pretty much planned for you even before you are born, otherwise, why else would things happen exactly the way they do? And I know a LOT of you will argue with me about that, and that is fine, we are all entitled to our own beliefs. Even if you differ, just give a few minutes of thought to the timing in your life, how certain things worked out, or didn’t, because of timing.

You know how we use the words ‘he was lucky – he was just at the right place, at the right time’? Mmmmm … but was it just luck?

Luck, serendipity, coincidence, preordination, call it what you want to, nobody can deny that timing is a huge part of life and love.

Until next time, may your timing be just right! 😉

PS. Apparently timing is also important in regards to when you do a new post – so here’s hoping I’ve at last got the timing right!!! 😀

Time, and life.

All good things come to an end…

The quality, not the longevity of one’s life is what is important.’ ~                                                                                                                           Martin Luther King Jr.

And just like that, 5 days have gone by since my last post!

Incredible how time flies…

I see it in many things. The rate at which my darling little granddaughter grows and develops – unbelievable. Counting back the days from when this ridiculous lockdown started – freakin’ scary! The days since my last post – what? 5 days? And that is how easily it happens – if you blink, it is 2 years since your last post, so I have to consciously sit down and write, because if I don’t…

You know how us humans are always wishing for something in the future? How we wish our lives away? It is probably normal, because we only do that in the hope of something better in future than what we have right now. I seriously try my best not to do that anymore, because life is charging ahead at a dizzying tempo. I’m trying to live for the moment, because my moments on earth is getting less and less, the more time passes.

I don’t say that to sound negative or morbid, it is a simple fact. I am fortunate to be healthy and still working, and I can only pray that I continue to be so robust in health. Even if I do, I am not a young woman any more, even if I don’t feel a day older than 35! – and that means time on earth is running out.

So living deliberately is important to me. Living day to day, and doing what I love and enjoy, is important. Spending time with people you love is very important. (A very difficult situation for me, because my loved ones are all too far away to see regularly, except for my SO*.) Avoiding those that cause stress and unhappiness in your life is also very important.

In order to enjoy life in a world that is hell bent on destroying one’s peace of mind, choose wisely – what you watch on TV, what you read, what you listen to, how you interact with others. All of that influence your life and happiness way more than you think.

So, until we chat again, blog friends, live well, stay safe! 🙂

*SO – significant other.
